Checking marketing copy for claims you cannot back up

Before something is published, SI checks the copy against your evidence and flags claims that are unsupported, outdated or risky.

Worth knowing: Advertising rules vary by industry and place (health, finance and legal services are stricter). SI flags wording; it does not replace review by a lawyer or compliance person.

The problem

Marketing copy picks up phrases like 'best in town', 'guaranteed' or 'clinically proven' that nobody can support. Old claims stay on the site long after they stopped being true.

What SI does

SI reads the draft or existing pages and lists each factual claim: superlatives, guarantees, numbers, certifications, results and comparisons. For each it looks for support in the evidence you provide (licenses, certifications, warranty terms, documented results) and labels it supported, unsupported or needs review, with a softer alternative.

Examples

The same job looks different in different businesses. These are illustrations, not client results.

  • Roofing company

'Lifetime warranty' is flagged because the manufacturer warranty has conditions; a clearer phrasing is suggested.

  • Supplement retailer

Health benefit claims on product pages are listed for review against what is allowed.

  • Accounting firm

A brochure line about 'guaranteed savings' is flagged and rewritten.

What it takes to set up

The copy to check and a folder of supporting documents. Setup is often a day.

What a human still checks

  • The owner or compliance reviewer decides final wording.
  • SI does not give legal opinions on advertising rules.
  • Industry-specific rules are checked by the responsible person.

Try it yourself

Paste this into your SI tool of choice and swap the [bracketed] parts for your own details. It asks SI to stop and show you before it does anything.
