Hurricane-season readiness and continuity plan
Before a storm, SI turns your own records into a checklist: what to protect, who to notify, and which files to copy, for you to act on.
Worth knowing: This is a business checklist from your files, not an emergency-management plan and not a client result. Safety decisions stay with you.
The problem
Hurricane season arrives and the plan is still in someone's head. Inventory location, customer appointments, supplier contacts, and the files the business would need after a closure are scattered. Nothing else in the library is an emergency or continuity checklist.
What SI does
From the lists and notes you provide, SI drafts a readiness packet: where stock or equipment sits, which appointments or orders fall in a date range you name, a customer note you can send if you close, supplier and staff contacts, and a list of records to copy (orders, invoices, contacts, insurance documents you already have). It marks gaps, such as a missing backup location or no after-hours contact. It does not send the customer note, move inventory, or file an insurance claim.
Examples
The same job looks different in different businesses. These are illustrations, not client results.
- Retail shop
SI lists high-value inventory locations from the stock sheet, drafts a closure note for customers with upcoming pickups, and lists the order export to copy off site.
- Home-services company
The week's appointments are listed, a reschedule note is drafted, and the crew contact list is checked for missing phone numbers.
- Restaurant
Perishable inventory from the last vendor orders is listed for a decision, and a short closure post and email are drafted for the owner to approve.
What it takes to set up
Your current contacts, a calendar or order export, a short note on where inventory and key files live, and any written closure policy you already use. Setup is often a day or two, then a refresh when a storm is in the forecast.
What a human still checks
- The owner decides what is actually done and what is sent.
- Customer and staff messages wait for approval.
- Insurance and legal steps stay with the owner and their agent or attorney; SI only lists documents you already have.
Try it yourself
Paste this into your SI tool of choice and swap the [bracketed] parts for your own details. It asks SI to stop and show you before it does anything.
Using these files [contacts, calendar or orders, inventory notes, closure policy], draft a hurricane readiness checklist for [dates]. Include where stock or equipment is, appointments or orders in that window, a customer message if we close, staff and supplier contacts, and which records to copy. List anything missing. Do not send messages or change records. Pause and show me before sending, submitting, posting, or changing anything.
