Summarizing job applications against the role's criteria
SI summarizes each application against the criteria you set for the role, so the hiring manager reads a consistent digest and decides.
Worth knowing: Hiring: employment and anti-discrimination laws apply. Screening criteria must be job-related and applied consistently, SI should never score on protected characteristics, and some places regulate automated hiring tools. A person makes every hiring decision.
The problem
A posting brings in dozens or hundreds of applications. Busy managers skim, miss good candidates, and apply different standards on different days.
What SI does
SI reads each application and summarizes it against the written, job-related criteria: required license or certification, relevant experience, availability, and answers to screening questions. It notes where information is missing and groups applications into meets criteria, partly meets, and does not show the requirement, with the reason. It does not reject anyone; the manager reviews.
Examples
The same job looks different in different businesses. These are illustrations, not client results.
- Home care agency
Caregiver applications are summarized by certification, driving availability and weekend availability, with missing certification dates noted.
- Electrical contractor
Journeyman applicants are summarized by license status and type of work, and the owner calls the ones who meet the requirements.
- Private school
Teaching applications are summarized by subject certification and grade-level experience for the principal.
What it takes to set up
The role's written criteria, access to applications from the job board or applicant tracker. Setup is often a day or two per role type.
What a human still checks
- A person reviews every application group and makes all decisions.
- SI ignores names, photos, ages and other protected characteristics in its summaries.
- Criteria and outcomes are reviewed periodically for consistency and fairness.
Try it yourself
Paste this into your SI tool of choice and swap the [bracketed] parts for your own details. It asks SI to stop and show you before it does anything.
Here are the written criteria for [role]: [paste]. Summarize each application in [folder/applicant tracker] against those criteria only, ignoring names, photos, age and other personal characteristics. Group them into meets, partly meets and does not show the requirement, with a one-line reason and any missing information. Do not reject anyone. Pause and show me before sending, submitting, posting or changing anything.
