Client status updates, attorney-approved
SI drafts a plain update from the attorney's own notes and the matter task list, and queues it for the attorney to edit and send.
Admin and operations help for solo attorneys and small firms. SI drafts and organizes; attorneys review and decide. No legal advice, no filing-ready work product, and client confidentiality comes first.
Worth knowing: Administrative support only: this is not legal advice and does not replace attorney judgment. An attorney reviews and approves anything client-facing or substantive, and client-confidential information is used only with the firm's agreements, access controls and consent. Updates only restate what the attorney has recorded. There are no predictions, no assessments of likelihood, and no promises of outcomes or timing.
The problem
Clients call asking what is happening with a matter, and attorneys spend time writing the same kind of routine update.
What SI does
From the attorney's own notes and the matter's task list, SI drafts a short, plain-language update covering what has been done and what is next, as the attorney has recorded it, and queues it for review.
Examples
The same job looks different in different businesses. These are illustrations, not client results.
- Solo family-law practice
A draft update restates the next step the attorney already wrote in the notes, and waits in the review queue.
- Two-attorney estate-planning firm
The draft covers the tasks the attorney marked done and the meeting already on the task list, and nothing beyond that.
- Small commercial-litigation firm
A question in the notes that the attorney has not answered is left out of the draft and flagged for the attorney.
What it takes to set up
GemmiSI sets this up on your own equipment and accounts; your data stays with you. Before connecting anything that holds client information, the firm reviews the vendor's terms, data retention and training practices, confirms access controls, and obtains any required client consent. Start with sample or de-identified material. Use the attorney's notes and the matter task list, plus one or two past updates with client details removed, as a tone sample. Setup is often a few days.
What a human still checks
- The attorney reads, edits, and approves each update before it is sent.
- The attorney handles any question that needs judgment.
- SI never sends, files, or posts on its own.
- Unsure items go to a "needs attorney review" queue.
Try it yourself
Paste this into your SI tool of choice and swap the [bracketed] parts for your own details. It asks SI to stop and show you before it does anything.
From these attorney notes [paste] and this task list [paste], draft a short plain-language update that restates only what the notes already say has been done and what is next. Leave out anything the notes do not answer, and list those gaps separately. Do not predict, assess likelihood, or promise timing. Pause and show me before sending, filing, posting or changing anything. Use only the sample or de-identified information I provide; do not include client-confidential details.
