Cash-flow look-ahead from open invoices and bills
SI lines up open customer invoices and open bills by week so you can see where money is expected in and where it is due out.
Worth knowing: This is a look-ahead from open invoices and bills already on file. It is not a forecast of new sales, not tax or financial advice, and not a client result.
The problem
Weekly reports look backward. Overdue reminders chase one invoice at a time. Neither shows whether next month's bills come due before the open invoices are scheduled to be paid.
What SI does
SI reads open customer invoices (amount, due date, customer) and open bills (amount, due date, supplier) from the export or books you provide. It groups them by week, shows expected in and due out, and flags weeks where bills due are larger than invoices due, plus invoices or bills with no due date. It uses only the dates and amounts in the file. It does not predict new sales, collect money, or pay bills.
Examples
The same job looks different in different businesses. These are illustrations, not client results.
- Agency with uneven retainers
Open client invoices and contractor bills are grouped by week. One week shows contractor bills due before the related client invoices are due.
- Contractor
Supplier bills due next week are listed next to customer draws that are invoiced but not yet due, so the owner can see the gap from the file.
- Retailer
Open vendor bills for a seasonal buy are set beside open wholesale invoices, by week, with any bill missing a due date called out.
What it takes to set up
An export of open invoices and open bills, or read access to the accounting tool. A note on which statuses count as open. Setup is often a day or two.
What a human still checks
- A person checks that due dates and amounts match the books before relying on the week.
- SI does not collect, pay, or move money.
- Rows with no due date stay listed as unknown instead of being assigned a date.
Try it yourself
Paste this into your SI tool of choice and swap the [bracketed] parts for your own details. It asks SI to stop and show you before it does anything.
Using open customer invoices [file] and open bills [file], group amounts by week using the due dates in the file. For each week, show expected money in, bills due out, and the difference. Flag weeks where bills due are larger than invoices due, and list any row with no due date. Do not invent dates, collect, or pay. Pause and show me before sending, submitting, posting, paying, or changing anything.
